dpaperwork vs building it yourself with Claude Code or Codex
A weekend build gives you the screens.dpaperwork gives you the system that has to keep running.
Building it yourself: Using Claude Code, Codex or another coding agent to build your own internal tools.
Not every founder should pick the same one.
Building it yourself is the right answer when
- Your process is unusual and no product fits it.
- You want to own every line, and you have the time to maintain it.
- You need one small tool, such as an invoice tracker, not a whole company record.
- You enjoy building, and the tool is part of what you learn or sell.
- You want full control of where the data lives.
dpaperwork is the right answer when
- You want the record, the approvals and the integrations without owning their upkeep.
- Several people and agents will write to the same record, and you need to see who changed what.
- You want agents to draft work that waits for a person to approve it before it reaches a client.
- Your time is better spent on clients than on maintaining internal software.

Where dpaperwork is behind
- If your process is truly unusual, a custom build will fit it better than we can.
- We have a short integration list: Gmail, Google Calendar and Claude today. A build can connect to anything you can write code for.
- You cannot change how dpaperwork works underneath. A build you own, you can.
- Ops, People, Cadence and Money are available and switched on per workspace. Payment links and Zoho Books or Xero sync for Money are coming. They are not available yet.
